Stronger Together: Supporting Families with SeeSaw

This week, our martial arts school had the pleasure of welcoming Jane from SeeSaw, an Oxfordshire-based charity dedicated to providing grief support for children, young people, and their families.

Hearing from Jane about the incredible, life-changing work that SeeSaw carries out for local families across Oxfordshire was both enlightening and inspiring, offering us a deeper understanding of the vital work SeeSaw does in our community.

From the moment Jane began speaking, it was clear how passionate the charity is about supporting children and young people through some of the most difficult moments they will ever face.

As a team, we left the meeting feeling inspired, grateful for the work they do, and incredibly excited about supporting SeeSaw throughout this year with a range of fundraising events involving our members and the local community.

Understanding SeeSaw's Mission

Established in 1999, SeeSaw offers free support to families in Oxfordshire when a parent, carer, or sibling is terminally ill or has died. Their services include face-to-face sessions, advice for parents and carers, training for professionals, and resources tailored to children's needs.

In the past year alone, SeeSaw have supported over 500 bereaved children in Oxfordshire, providing them with the tools to navigate their grief and helping them process loss in a healthy and supported way, building emotional resilience that will help them throughout life.

The Alignment with Our Martial Arts Philosophy

Our martial arts school emphasises confidence, resilience, and community values that resonate deeply with SeeSaw's mission.

Just as we train and support our members to build lasting confidence whilst they face life’s challenges with strength, resilience and perseverance, SeeSaw equips young individuals with the emotional tools to cope with loss and adversity.

We both believe that no child should struggle alone, that it takes a supportive community to raise a well rounded child and that being entrusted to give young people tools that help them for life is a true honour.

For us, this shared commitment to personal growth and support makes our partnership feel like a natural fit, that is meaningful and incredibly important.

How You Can Get Involved

Whilst we are still in the planning stage, we are thrilled to announce that we will be supporting SeeSaw throughout this year with various fundraising events that are aimed at raising awareness and funds for SeeSaw's invaluable services.

We invite all our members and the wider community to participate in our upcoming events or combine their own fundraising efforts this year with ours. Whether you've been a member of Tiger Martial Arts for years or new to our school, there's an opportunity for everyone to contribute.

Together, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of bereaved children and their families in Oxfordshire.
